Director, Production Operations
Job Summary
The Director, Production Operations leads Comcast’s studio and remote production operations, ensuring the seamless planning, execution, and delivery of high-quality live and recorded content. This role oversees production logistics, resource management, and technical execution across multiple locations—driving operational excellence, efficiency, and innovation. The Director partners closely with creative, engineering, and field teams to ensure Comcast’s productions meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and brand integrity.Job Description
Core Responsibilities
Production Strategy & Planning
Develop and implement operational plans that support Comcast’s studio and remote production goals.
Oversee scheduling, staffing, and budgeting to ensure efficient and on-time delivery of productions.
Partner with creative and technical leadership to forecast resource needs and align production capacity with demand.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and increase production efficiency.
Studio & Remote Production Oversight
Help lead day-to-day operations across Comcast’s studio and remote production environments.
Ensure all productions—live and recorded—meet established quality, technical, and safety standards.
Coordinate logistics for remote shoots, including crew assignments, equipment transport, and on-site setup.
Collaborate with engineering and technical operations to maintain readiness and reliability of production systems.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Help manage and develop a team of production managers, coordinators, contractors, agencies and technical staff.
Foster strong collaboration between studio teams, field operations, and creative partners.
Serve as a key liaison to internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure smooth execution of projects.
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning within the production team.
Vendor, Resource & Budget Management
Oversee relationships with production vendors, freelancers, and equipment suppliers.
Negotiate and manage contracts, ensuring service quality and adherence to budget.
Monitor operating expenses and identify cost-savings opportunities without compromising quality.
Maintain accurate asset and inventory records for production facilities and remote kits.
Operational Excellence & Innovation
Implement best practices for production planning, documentation, and reporting.
Leverage technology and data to improve scheduling, communication, and quality control.
Identify opportunities to adopt new tools and techniques to enhance Comcast’s production capabilities.
Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for production throughput, quality, and cost efficiency.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Production, Media, Communications, or related field.
8+ years of experience in studio and/or remote production management, with increasing leadership responsibility.
Proven success overseeing live and recorded productions from planning through delivery.
Strong operational and logistical expertise, including crew management, scheduling, and budgeting.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with experience managing large, cross-functional teams.
Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail.
Preferred:
Experience with large-scale or broadcast production environments.
Technical understanding of production equipment, remote workflows, and control room operations.
Experience managing vendor relationships and production contracts.
