Job Summary
About RDK & RDK Broadband RDK is an open-source middleware software stack that powers set-top boxes, Wi Fi routers, and broadband gateways used by leading operators around the world. The RDK project (https://rdkcentral.com/) is deployed in millions of devices and supported by major telcos and cable operators and is open sourced at github.com/rdkcentral. RDK Broadband (RDK B) provides a unified, open platform for broadband gateways and Wi Fi routers, enabling operators and partners to deliver consistent, high-quality connected home experiences at scale. The RDK team focuses on running RDK as an open-source project, running technology governance, maintaining periodic software release cycles and integrations on reference hardware platforms.Job Description
What You’ll Do
Lead the RDK Broadband Engineering Team
- Lead the team delivering open-source annual and quarterly RDK‑B code releases.
- Drive delivery of high‑priority initiatives, including:
- EasyMesh features and Wi‑Fi mesh integration
- Periodic Yocto upgrades and build system modernization
- ARM SystemReady enablement and compliance
- Provide regular status updates, delivery metrics, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
- Ensure strong software architecture, design integrity, and code quality for all RDK‑B releases.
Own Release Execution & Quality
- Oversee planning, estimation, and execution for:
- New feature development
- Maintenance updates
- Partner with Release Engineering and QA to:
- Define and enforce CI/CD pipelines and automation strategies
- Establish quality gates (unit, integration, regression, performance, stability)
- Ensure predictable, high‑quality releases that meet operator SLAs, cross‑operator compatibility, and internal quality standards.
- Continuously improve build systems, branching strategies, and release practices for RDK‑B and associated components.
Lead & Grow a Global Engineering Organization
- Lead, mentor, and develop a global team of engineering managers, tech leads, and individual contributors across development, integration, test, and release.
- Set clear goals, expectations, and accountability for delivery and quality.
- Build a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Foster strong collaboration with Product, Program Management, Release Engineering, QA, and ecosystem partners.
Run Open-Source Technology Governance and Collaboration
- Work closely with Technology Leaders from across the industry eliciting feedback and driving towards technology alignment
- Manage the RDK Technology Advisory Board (RTAB) for Broadband in close partnership with the RTAB Chair and co-chair.
- Help shape RTAB meeting agendas, ensuring relevant topics and stakeholders are represented.
- Actively participate in RTAB discussions, providing technical and delivery perspectives.
- Align on RDK Broadband strategy, roadmap priorities, and technology direction.
- Champion open, collaborative development across the RDK community to reduce fragmentation and accelerate innovation.
Own the RDK Broadband Roadmap
- Work with the RTAB and ecosystem partners to define the RDK‑B feature roadmap.
- Balance operator needs, industry standards, security, performance, and long‑term platform evolution.
- Ensure the roadmap is documented, published, and communicated widely within the industry.
- Translate roadmap priorities into concrete engineering plans, release timelines, and resourcing.
What You Bring
Must‑Have Qualifications
- 15+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles (Senior Manager, Director, or equivalent).
- Proven experience delivering software for broadband gateways, Wi‑Fi routers, CPE devices, or embedded networking systems.
- Strong background in embedded Linux, ideally including:
- Yocto‑based build systems
- System integration and BSPs
- Hands‑on experience with C/C++ (and/or similar system languages) and modern engineering practices.
- Demonstrated ownership of end‑to‑end release lifecycle (planning, execution, quality, and cross‑org coordination).
- Experience leading global, distributed engineering teams.
- Comfort engaging with senior leadership, presenting status and risks, and influencing decisions.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps practices.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
- Direct experience with RDK‑B, OpenWRT or similar routing middleware
- Knowledge of:
- EasyMesh and Wi‑Fi mesh networking standards
- DOCSIS, PON, Fixed Wireless or other broadband access technologies
- Experience contributing to or leading open-source projects and communities.
- Familiarity with device security (secure boot, hardening, patch management) and performance optimization for connected devices.
- Prior involvement in industry forums, working groups, or technical advisory boards.
