About the Team / Role:
We are seeking a highly experienced and forward-thinking Building Management System (BMS) Engineer with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering to lead the design, integration, and optimization of building systems across our national portfolio of critical infrastructure facilities. This role is pivotal in advancing our operational technology (OT) strategy, enhancing energy efficiency, and ensuring the security and resilience of our HVAC and BMS platforms.
You will serve as a national subject matter expert (SME), collaborating with cross-functional teams—including cybersecurity, facilities, IT, and engineering partners—to drive innovation in high-density cooling, BMS standardization, and OT device lifecycle management.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead BMS and Cooling Standardization
- Develop and implement national standards for BMS platforms and mechanical systems across all critical infrastructure (CI) facilities.
- Evaluate and integrate advanced cooling technologies (e.g., liquid cooling, immersion, economization) to support high-density deployments.
- Mechanical Systems Engineering
- Provide SME-level guidance on HVAC systems, CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water/glycol systems, and airflow management.
- Support thermal modeling, capacity planning, and high-performance computing environments.
- OT Security Integration
- Partner with cybersecurity and IT teams to inventory, assess, and secure HVAC and BMS assets within the OT landscape.
- Ensure compliance with internal and regulatory security frameworks.
- Performance Optimization & Analytics
- Conduct cross-site performance analysis to identify trends, reduce energy usage (PUE, WUE), and improve system reliability.
- Develop monitoring, alerting, and response protocols using platforms like Honeywell or equivalent BMS/EPMS systems.
- Project & Vendor Oversight
- Oversee commissioning, retrofits, and upgrades of mechanical and BMS systems.
- Support design reviews for new builds and expansions, ensuring alignment with CI and sustainability standards.
- Documentation & Governance
- Create and maintain SOPs, EOPs, and best practices for environmental systems.
- Contribute to CI Standards Review processes and strategic BMS platform selection.
Skills & Experience We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field; or equivalent experience in data center environmental systems.
- 7-10+ years of experience in mechanical systems and BMS within critical infrastructure or data center environments.
- Deep expertise in BMS/SCADA systems, HVAC technologies, and high-density cooling solutions.
- Strong understanding of ASHRAE TC 9.9, airflow management, and thermal performance metrics.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, control schematics, and performance data.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as CDCP, DCEP, LEED AP, PMP, or equivalent.
- Experience with DCIM platforms, remote telemetry, and performance dashboards.
- Familiarity with cyber-physical security frameworks for OT systems.
Strategic Impact:
- Enhanced Security Posture: Integrate mechanical and BMS systems into OT security frameworks.
- Operational Efficiency: Drive energy and cost savings through optimized system design.
- Risk Mitigation: Reduce downtime and maintenance through proactive engineering.
