Job Summary

Responsible for External Affairs related matters for the Panhandle and Big Bend areas encompassing the following counties: Columbia , Suwannee, Madison, Jefferson, Leon, Gadsden, Jackson, Washington, Holmes, Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Escambia Counties as well as Alabama Henry, Houston Barbour, and Brooks County Georgia. Develops and implements local strategies, monitors local ordinances and legislation. Oversees corporate initiatives, rural broadband, foundation grants, permitting, and community investment giving. Assists construction, operations, business teams with roadblocks in operating business as usual. Identifies and helps coordinate volunteer activities/TeamUp projects in market.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Reviews, coordinates, and interprets legal documents for compliance and conformity to company standards. To ensure compliance, communicates terms and conditions of franchise or legal-related agreements, local ordinances, permits, easements, pole attachment and other contracts for implementation by the field. Works with the appropriate legal counsel to assist in resolution of any matters impacting the business. 
  • Supports Rural Broadband efforts to include grant writing, BEAD advocacy, etc.
  • Supports and expands business and social initiatives that further Comcast’s corporate objectives, including local business leads, local planning, negotiation, project management, promotion, program implementation, and/or event production.
  • Monitors new local legislative, business, or community initiatives to assess their impact on Comcast, along with education and rollout of any local ordinance matters that impact our business. 
  • Assist construction/operations in market expansion / permitting related issues.  Works extensively with construction teams and permitting business partners to resolve high stakes permitting issues. Assists with construction and business operations, such as expediting pole access, permits, right-of-way, and private easement issues.
  • Handles the maintenance of local franchise administration and database information; and ensures the timely delivery of franchise renewal notifications. Oversees compliance with state franchising.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key business and civic groups, economic councils, chambers, elected and government officials, universities/think tanks, community-based organizations, and special interest groups to monitor activities and Comcast-related issues, address possible concerns, facilitate sales, ensure Comcast is always part of the conversation.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with government representatives at the local level to ensure the organization's interests are represented and protected in proceedings and the development of market rules and procedures.  Travels to attend commission meetings, hearings, or other special events to represent the company.
  • Leads outside counsel, consultants, or lobbyists to implement strategies or initiatives.
  • Serves as a  point of contact for various chambers of commerce, Florida Department of Commerce Local Technology Planning Teams. 
  • Manages special projects related to Community Affairs.  Maintains community affairs budget(s).
  • Oversees programming related to corporate initiatives and community affairs activities.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree

While possessing the stated degree is preferred, Comcast also may consider applicants who hold some combination of coursework and experience, or who have extensive related professional experience.
