Software Engineer (Go / AWS, IoT Device Integration)
Job Summary
About the Role: We’re the Camera Platform team, powering the backend for the video devices in our Smart Home / Connected Living organization. As Smart Home rapidly expands its lineup of connected devices, our charter is growing with it: we’re building the platform that turns 3rd-party device onboarding from a series of bespoke integrations into a repeatable, scalable capability — enhancing home security and peace of mind for Comcast customers. The work goes beyond connecting any single device: you’ll help build the abstractions and patterns that bring a growing ecosystem of devices online reliably through cloud-to-cloud API and event-driven integrations. This is a Go/AWS-first role: net-new development is in Go, and you’ll implement integrations, contribute to the platform patterns the team is establishing, and own components end-to-end as the team grows.Job Description
What You’ll Do
- Design and build scalable, high-concurrency backend services in Go on AWS (Lambda, EC2, DynamoDB, SNS/SQS, SSM)
- Implement integrations with external cloud platforms via APIs and event/callback models — working with auth/token lifecycle, API contracts and versioning, and rate limits — contributing to the frameworks and patterns that make onboarding repeatable
- Work with core device-platform concepts — device identity, capabilities, commands, events, state synchronization, and onboarding/deprovisioning — as you build and operate integrations
- Contribute to mapping device capabilities into our platform, working with technical and business teams
- Build resilient, event-driven integrations on top of third-party systems — handling async event processing, idempotency, retries, partial failure, and state reconciliation
- Provide maintenance and support for our existing Java/Spring Boot platform during an ongoing transition, while net-new development is Go/AWS-first
- Contribute to performance tuning, reliability, and observability improvements
- Build and ship using AI-assisted development tools as part of day-to-day engineering
- Participate in architecture and design discussions
- Take ownership of features and components end-to-end
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
- Solid backend engineering skills in a statically typed language such as Java or Go (we are Go-first going forward; willingness and ability to ramp to Go required)
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud-native services (Lambda, EC2, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS)
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and scalability
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions
- Experience operating production services (participating in on-call, monitoring, incident response)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- Production Go experience
- Exposure to 3rd-party API/device integration or IoT
- Experience integrating external cloud platforms or SaaS APIs (auth/token lifecycle, webhooks/callbacks, rate limits)
- Experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging (e.g., SNS/SQS, queues, streams, pub/sub)
- Prior IoT or device-platform experience
- AWS certification is a plus, though hands-on production experience matters more
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools
- Strong cross-functional communication skills
- Experience with Spring Boot or Micronaut
