Senior Engineer, Xfinity WiFi Core Network Platform
Job Summary
The Xfinity WiFi Core team is seeking an Engineer 4 to design, build, and operate large-scale WiFi and network platform services. This role is hands-on and execution-focused, with responsibility for developing platform components, automating operations, and ensuring reliability of production systems under the guidance of senior engineers.Job Description
This role is based in our downtown Philadelphia Comcast Technology Center.
In this role, you will contribute to platform architecture and product development for Xfinity WiFi and adjacent connectivity services.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and enhance WiFi and network platform components aligned with established architectural and technical direction.
- Develop, deploy, and operate high-availability, geo-resilient services, including load balancing and traffic management systems.
- Support and troubleshoot L2/L3 networking and WiFi platforms, including routing (e.g., BGP), control-plane systems, and service-layer components.
- Develop and maintain automation workflows using Python and Ansible for provisioning, configuration, and operations.
- Build and support CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) for infrastructure and service deployment.
- Deploy and maintain containerized services in Kubernetes environments following platform standards.
- Implement and operate observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, logging, and alerting systems.
- Troubleshoot system and network issues through packet capture (pcap) analysis, telemetry, and performance debugging.
- Participate in incident response and contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement of system reliability.
- Maintain and support lab environments for testing configurations, automation workflows, and integration scenarios.
- Collaborate across engineering, QA, and partner teams; participate in design reviews, code reviews, and operational readiness processes.
- Document architectures, workflows, and operational procedures to support scalable and reliable operations.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in networking, WiFi, platform engineering, or distributed systems engineering.
- Strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals (IPv4/IPv6, routing, DNS, DHCP, NAT).
- Experience with WiFi technologies (802.11 standards, WPA2/WPA3, Passpoint fundamentals).
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation in production environments.
- Experience with load balancing platforms such as F5 BIG-IP or equivalent.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting distributed systems and network environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Technical Competencies:
- Networking: Traffic flows, routing behavior, and service-layer interactions.
- Platform Engineering: Kubernetes, service lifecycle, and high-availability design principles.
- Automation: Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Python/Ansible-based workflows.
- Observability: Metrics, logging, monitoring, and alerting systems.
- Performance Engineering: Capacity planning and system optimization.
- Troubleshooting: Structured debugging, packet analysis, and root cause identification.
