Paralegal
Job Summary
Responsible for providing support and assistance to attorneys in the form of drafting legal documents, gathering of relevant documents and information for litigation matters, initial case fact assessments, and performing administrative work. Applies knowledge of legal concepts and processes to assist in legal proceedings. May act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Work with supervision of Counsel, Assistant Deputy General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and/or VP, Senior Deputy General Counsel.Job Description
Core Responsibilities
- Implements legal holds for assigned matters if applicable.
- Assists with collection and production of relevant documents.
- Organizes documents required in connection with pre-litigation matters or legal proceedings.
- Performs legal research using provided resources. Conducts fact gathering interviews and documents research.
- Obtains information required to comply with subpoenas, requests for production of documents, or other forms of pretrial discovery, and conducts investigatory research in litigation matters with in-house attorney guidance.
- Maintains litigation electronic database, including uploading key case documents, emails etc.
- Maintains key case deadlines in the Commercial Litigation calendar.
- Researches and summarizes laws, cases, and files; presents a synopsis to the Attorney for use in preparation for trial or responding to a legal issue.
- Ensures timely responses to legal notices and subpoenas.
- Receives service of process and coordinates timely assignment of cases to outside counsel.
- Prepares legal documents and business communications as needed.
- Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including occasional overflow paralegal support to balance team workload.
Qualifications:
- Generally requires 3-5 years of related paralegal litigation experience in a corporate or law firm environment.
- Previous paralegal experience in a litigation department is highly desired.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle a high volume of active matters.
- Proactive, self-starter, and team player with excellent influencing skills. Ability to follow up with cross functional contacts in a tactful and polite manner.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Equivalent, and/or Paralegal Certification.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word and Excel).
- Previous Legal Documentation Management database experience.
- Well-developed tracking/record-keeping, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Possesses knowledge of the law and legal processes.
- Demonstrated ability to employ judgment and experience to make decisions.
- Excellent organization, communication (oral and written), and time management skills.
