Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director to lead our Compensation & Benefits and Insurance Accounting functions. This role will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and reporting of complex employee compensation plans, including equity-based compensation and deferred compensation plans, as well as managing the insurance accounting for our corporate health and welfare benefit programs, including those associated with our captive insurance entity. The Director will lead a team of three and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure compliance, transparency, and operational excellence.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting and financial reporting for:
      - Equity-based compensation (e.g., restricted stock units, stock options)
      - Deferred compensation plans
      - Employee benefit plans including health and welfare insurance plans, with an emphasis on accounting for activities within a captive insurance entity
  • Lead month-end and quarter-end close processes related to compensation and insurance accounting activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Partner with HR, Tax, Treasury, Legal, and external auditors to ensure accurate treatment and disclosure of compensation and insurance liabilities.
  • Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP, statutory reporting standards, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Ensure accounting policies and procedures reflect best practices and drive improvements where needed.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls over financial reporting and oversee risk management practices related to benefits and insurance accounting.
  • Serve as the accounting subject matter expert for benefit plan audits and disclosures.
  • Manage and mentor a team of three professionals, promoting growth and accountability.
  • Drive automation and efficiency through process improvements and implementation of technology tools where applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in accounting, with deep expertise in compensation accounting and insurance-related financial reporting
  • Prior experience working with or for a captive insurance company strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing accounting professionals
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with financial statement preparation and analysis
  • Familiarity with enterprise accounting systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and implement accounting system/process improvements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
