Job Summary

Comcast is seeking an Engineer 2, Network Engineering to support the lifecycle management of critical core network infrastructure across one of the nation's largest telecommunications networks. This role is responsible for developing and supporting automation solutions that enable the deployment, augmentation, upgrade, migration, and decommissioning of core network devices throughout their operational lifecycle. The successful candidate will combine networking expertise with software development and automation capabilities to improve configuration management, compliance validation, deployment processes, operational visibility, and network reliability. Working closely with engineering, operations, and architecture teams, this individual will help accelerate the modernization and scalability of Comcast's core network infrastructure while ensuring operational excellence across multi-vendor environments.

Job Description

Responsible for supporting the engineering, automation, and lifecycle management of core network infrastructure. Contributes to the deployment, augmentation, modernization, migration, and retirement of critical network devices that support Comcast's core network environment.

Uses networking, software development, and automation expertise to design and improve platforms, processes, and tools that streamline device lifecycle activities, configuration management, compliance validation, operational reporting, and large-scale network deployments. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable automation solutions that enhance network reliability, operational efficiency, and service delivery.

This role is based in our Mt. Laurel, NJ office.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the full lifecycle management of core network devices, including deployment, augmentation, upgrades, migrations, modernization initiatives, and decommissioning activities.
  • Develop and maintain Python-based automation solutions that streamline network device onboarding, configuration management, validation, and retirement processes.
  • Assist in planning and executing network infrastructure changes to support capacity growth, technology refreshes, and network transformation initiatives.
  • Build and enhance platforms that support large-scale configuration deployment, device lifecycle management, compliance tracking, and operational reporting.
  • Validate network configurations and perform audits to ensure compliance with engineering standards and operational requirements.
  • Analyze network telemetry, operational data, configuration information, and system logs to identify trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities.
  • Support execution of network device provisioning, software upgrades, hardware refreshes, migrations, and end-of-life decommissioning efforts.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, architecture, and software development teams to integrate automation and telemetry into operational workflows.
  • Assist in troubleshooting routing, connectivity, and network performance issues across large-scale multi-vendor environments.
  • Participate in the development of automation frameworks used for network validation, anomaly detection, testing, and deployment assurance.
  • Contribute to release management, CI/CD initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts supporting network automation platforms.
  • Monitor network performance and assist in identifying infrastructure enhancements that improve scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Document network systems, lifecycle management procedures, automation workflows, deployment standards, and operational processes.
  • Participate in developing network engineering strategies and provide technical recommendations supporting future infrastructure growth and modernization.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedules, and maintenance windows as required.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications:

This position is ineligible for visa sponsorship. To be considered for this role, you must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for employment now or in the future.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting network engineering, network operations, automation engineering, systems engineering, or related technical functions.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, subnetting, routing, switching, packet analysis, and OSI model fundamentals.
  • Experience supporting the deployment, operation, upgrade, migration, or decommissioning of network infrastructure devices in enterprise, service provider, telecommunications, or large-scale production environments.
  • Understanding of routing protocols including OSPF, ISIS, EIGRP, and BGP concepts.
  • Experience with Python or another scripting language used for automation and operational tooling.
  • Ability to develop scripts and tools that automate operational network tasks and workflows.
  • Experience working with network device configurations, operational datasets, telemetry, or log analysis.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control technologies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple engineering and operational teams.

Preference for candidates who also have the following:

  • Exposure to AI/ML assisted tools or automation
  • Familiarity with network simulation or lab environments

Salary:

New Jersey Pay Range: $78,505.90 - $117,758.85

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience. The application window is 30 days from the date job is posted, unless the number of applicants requires it to close sooner or later.
