Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Manager to lead and support the operational health, performance, and maintenance of our Optical Transport Network infrastructure. This role will be responsible for managing a team of 8–10 highly skilled network engineers, ensuring 24/7 availability of high-capacity transport services across our national and regional networks. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in transport technologies (DWDM, ROADM, OTN, SONET/SDH), solid experience in network operations, and a leadership style that fosters accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 8–10 network engineers responsible for day-to-day operations of the optical transport network.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee and drive resolution of complex transport network issues, including escalations and post-incident reviews.
  • On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours leadership support during critical incidents and network events.
  • Performance Monitoring: Ensure proactive monitoring and maintenance of optical network elements to support optimal uptime and performance.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with vendors and OEMs for issue resolution, software updates, and lifecycle management of network equipment.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and implement operational procedures, playbooks, and automation strategies to improve network reliability and reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR).
  • Project Leadership: Collaborate with planning and engineering teams to support network upgrades, expansions, and optimization projects.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure team activities are compliant with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Provide regular metrics and reporting to leadership.

Technical Expertise:

  • 10+ years of experience in network operations, with at least 5 years in optical transport technologies (DWDM, ROADM, OTN, SONET/SDH).
  • Deep understanding of optical transport systems from major vendors (e.g., Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, Cisco).
  • Strong knowledge of Layer 1/2 networking concepts, fiber infrastructure, and transport protocols.
  • Experience with network monitoring and performance tools (e.g., NMS, EMS, OTDR, SNMP-based systems).

Leadership & Operational Experience:

  • Proven experience managing and developing high-performing technical teams in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead incident response, root cause analysis, and post-mortem reviews.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and driving accountability for SLAs and support escalations.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Soft Skills & Education:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, planning, and executive teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive, detail-oriented mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP, MEF-CECP) are a plus.

Salary:

Primary Location Pay Range: $147,936.89 - $221,905.33

Additional Range: This job can be performed in New Jersey with a Pay Range of $147,936.89 - $221,905.33
