The Technology, Product, Experience (TPX) organization works at the intersection of media and technology and our innovative teams are continually developing and delivering products and next-generation technologies that transform the customer experience.

The Comcast Network and CONNECTivity (CONNECT) organization is a highly agile, fast-paced, dedicated group at the forefront of change focused on innovating, building, and operating the best in class, most reliable access network for our customers.

Who does the Principal Network Software Engineer work with?

The Access Network Engineering team is a diverse collection of professionals who work with a variety of organizational roles ranging from software engineering teams whose software integrates with analytics services, network architects and engineers, to some of the leading broadband experts who have pioneered the current and future of broadband access technology.

Where can you make an impact?

Working at the intersection of R&D and Software development, you willdevelop software- baseddata-driven solutions that drive reliability, performance, and availability with an eye towards a self-managed self-healing network. Responsible for innovation and developing proof-of-concept (POC) solutions for advanced network capabilities that will eventually be integrated with larger Comcast systems and deployment environments to enable enhanced network functionalities and capabilities.

Work in a highly technically challenging domain that will shape the future of Comcast and be part of a team that thrives on big challenges, results, quality, and agility and will be responsible for key components leading to the success of our future 10G evolution increasing capacity and spectral efficiency. Contribute expertise to software development and HFC experience to hands on lab and field configuration and characterization supporting HFC spectrum expansion and optimization.

Success in this role is best enabled by a broad mix of skills and interests ranging from HFC-oriented infrastructure, broadband communications, data-based analytics and decision making, software design, and engaging cross-domain development teams with systems architecture and DOCSIS subject matter expertise.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define and analyze network (PON and HFC) metrics and KPIs and identify opportunities for improving network performance and reliability and optimization of existing network infrastructure.
  • Evaluate and discover network challenges and develop innovative solutions to some key network challenges with use of network virtualization.
  • Collaborate with SMEs and architects on developing proof-of-concept for proposed solutions and collaborate with lab, vCMTS and Tech-Ops team to drive lab and field evaluations.
  • Take the lead on the software development of the proof-of-concept, following software development best practices
  • Design lab test systems to evaluate developed solutions that contribute to the network evolution roadmap for both RF and optical infrastructure including distributed access architecture, fiber deep architectures and FTTH.
  • Work with the appropriate stakeholders to transition the solution from a proof-of-concept to a deployed solution
  • Contribute expertise to software development and network optimization to hands on lab testing and field configuration and characterization.
  • Work with data scientists and algorithm developers to develop operational platforms, monitoring dashboards and analyzing various network functionalities.
  • Work with program and operations resources to execute field trials and network measurement campaigns.
  • Frequent meeting/communication with stakeholders to interpret their needs, plan/organize, and discuss progress and results. Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and presentation are required.
  • Develop and communicate goals, strategies, tactics, project plans, timelines, and key performance metrics to reach goals.
  • Collaborate across teams with an open-minded perspective on new ideas with creative contribution on new technology, architectures and operational approaches. Inclusive sharing of ideas and data with all stakeholders. Inclined to act and do whatever is needed to get the job done.

Skills & Experience We’re Looking For:

  • BS or MS degree (or equivalent) in the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or relevant science or engineering discipline
  • Strong software development skills including python, Go, C++ and familiarity with continuous integration and test case automation
  • Strong understanding of Next Generation Access Networks and HFC technologies (DAA, DOCSIS 3.1, DOCSIS 4.0, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of FTTH technologies, deployment opportunities and challenges, and PON technology roadmap and evolution
  • 5+ years of experience working in broadband or wireless telecommunications including HFC, PON, DOCSIS or wireless technology
    • Understanding of DOCSIS (3/3.1/4) physical, MAC and upper layer protocols
    • Understanding of DOCSIS 3.1 OSS and PNM collection capabilities
  • Deployment, lab and field trial experience is a plus

Salary:

Primary Location Pay Range: $144,463.36 - $216,695.04

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience. The application window is 30 days from the date job is posted, unless the number of applicants requires it to close sooner or later.
