Freewheel, a Comcast company, is seeking a Senior Manager, Software Engineering to lead multiple engineering teams powering core components of the Streaming Hub Publisher Suite. This leader is accountable for engineering execution, technical excellence, operational reliability, and talent development across multiple teams, partnering closely with global product and engineering leadership. This role requires strong technical depth and engagement in technical and architectural discussions; it is not a delivery-only management position.Job Description
Key Job Responsibilities:
Engineering Execution & Delivery:
- Own and drive predictable, agile roadmap delivery across center-owned components and services.
- Lead structured planning and rigorous estimation processes, proactively managing cross-team dependencies and delivery risks.
- Develop and maintain clear capacity models to effectively balance near-term feature delivery with long-term platform investments.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality execution across teams through strong delivery governance, performance metrics, and transparent reporting.
Technical leadership
- Raise the engineering bar across the full software development lifecycle, including design reviews, code quality, testing, operational excellence, and documentation.
- Drive architectural clarity and define clear component ownership boundaries across services and platforms.
- Navigate ambiguity effectively, providing direction and focus while guiding teams through uncertainty and change.
- Ensure engineering processes and systems are built for scale, resilience, and high availability in revenue-critical environments.
- Provide coaching, strategic direction, and operational focus to multiple engineering managers and teams (2-4 teams comprising 40+ engineers).
Organizational leadership
- Represent the center for all Streaming Hub initiatives with global stakeholders, ensuring strong alignment on strategy, goals, and priorities.
- Build and maintain trusted partnerships with Product, UX, and business leaders, effectively advocating engineering perspectives in decision-making.
- Hire, develop, and retain high-performing engineers and engineering managers, fostering a strong leadership pipeline.
- Drive performance excellence through clear expectations, differentiation, and promotion readiness.
- Build organizational depth through thoughtful succession planning across both technical and managerial career tracks.
- Cultivate a culture of ownership, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
Minimum Qualification & Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.
- 7-8+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing engineering teams and developing managers.
- Strong background in backend architecture using modern programming languages such as Golang or Java.
- Experience with front-end development using JavaScript (preferably React) and modern HTML-based web technologies.
- Proven experience designing and implementing scalable, distributed microservices architectures.
- Strong experience designing and optimizing relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle), including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Experience working with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
- Hands-on experience building and operating event-driven systems using Kafka.
- Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product Management, Architecture, DevOps, and QA to deliver high-quality releases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in the AdTech domain will be given first preference.
- Familiarity with real-time bidding (RTB), ad serving, user targeting, or analytics platforms.
- Candidates with overseas work experience, or experience working for the India operations of a U.S.-based or global technology company
- Exposure to high-throughput, low-latency systems
