Engineer 2, Software Development & Engineering
Job Summary
We are seeking a mid-level Full-Stack Software Engineer with strong experience in Java and/or Scala and a solid understanding of modern web technologies. This role goes beyond feature delivery and places a strong emphasis on building systems that are performant, observable, and scalable by design. The successful candidate will work across the full software development lifecycle, contributing to both functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, reliability, and maintainability. You will collaborate closely with product, QA, performance engineering, and platform teams to ensure applications meet expected service levels under real-world load.Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and/or Scala, while contributing to front‑end development with modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Participate in architectural discussions and technical design reviews to ensure scalable and high‑performance solutions.
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code and actively participate in peer code reviews.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and support cloud-based deployments, ensuring safe and efficient delivery.
- Support production systems through incident investigation, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.
Performance & Quality Engineering
- Contribute to performance and quality engineering activities throughout the development lifecycle.
- Design, implement, and maintain performance test scripts using Gatling, with supporting utilities in Python where needed.
- Execute performance, load, and stress tests in lower and pre‑production environments in partnership with performance engineers.
- Analyse performance results, identify bottlenecks, and work with developers/architects to recommend optimizations at the application, service, or infrastructure level.
Observability & Analysis
- Use observability tools to understand system behaviour under load and production‑like conditions.
- Analyse metrics and dashboards using Grafana to assess latency, throughput, error rates, and resource utilization.
- Interpret AWS CloudWatch metrics and logs to correlate application activity with infrastructure performance.
- Contribute to performance reports, highlighting risks, trends, and actionable insights.
- Support post‑incident reviews and ensure learnings are incorporated into design and testing for improved system resilience.
