Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer Engineering 4 to serve as the senior technical leader across a diverse portfolio of data engineering, platform engineering, and application development initiatives. This role provides technical direction, architectural governance, hands-on guidance, and mentorship for Engineering 1, Engineering 2, and Engineering 3 engineers. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in modern data engineering and software development with strong leadership capabilities. They will be responsible for driving architectural excellence, ensuring engineering best practices, mentoring teams, supporting production-critical systems, and accelerating modernization and AI-driven initiatives. This is a high-impact role supporting multiple business-critical platforms and applications across the organisation.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

• Serve as the technical authority and trusted advisor for engineering teams.

• Drive architecture and design decisions across multiple applications and platforms.

• Establish and enforce engineering standards, coding guidelines, and best practices.

• Lead technical design reviews and provide recommendations for scalability, performance, reliability, and security.

• Guide teams in solving complex technical and business challenges.

Solution Architecture & Design

• Design scalable and resilient data and application architectures.

• Review system designs and implementation approaches for critical initiatives.

• Ensure consistency in architectural patterns across the technology landscape.

• Drive modernization efforts involving cloud, big data, automation, and AI technologies.

Engineering Excellence

• Improve software quality, delivery velocity, and operational stability.

• Define and promote development standards, code review practices, and testing strategies.

• Identify and mitigate technical debt, system risks, and operational bottlenecks.

• Champion continuous improvement and engineering productivity initiatives.

Mentorship & People Development

• Mentor Engineering 1, Engineering 2, and Engineering 3 engineers.

• Provide guidance on system design, coding, troubleshooting, and technical career growth.

• Foster a culture of technical excellence, learning, and collaboration.

• Build future technical leaders within the organisation.

Production Support & Operational Leadership

• Act as the senior escalation point for critical production incidents.

• Perform root cause analysis and drive long-term corrective actions.

• Improve system observability, monitoring, resiliency, and reliability practices.

• Partner with support and operations teams to ensure service stability.

Innovation & Modernization

• Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices and automation initiatives.

• Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for innovation.

• Lead efforts involving data modernization, cloud transformation, and performance optimisation.

Required Experience

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.

• 5+ years of experience leading technical teams or acting as a technical architect/lead.

• Proven experience building and operating large-scale enterprise applications and data platforms.

• Strong experience in distributed systems, big data processing, and cloud-native architectures.

• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across multiple teams.

• Demonstrated success in driving complex engineering initiatives from design through production support.
