Development Engineer 2
Job Summary
Design, build, and operate the Auto Publisher service that connects planning systems with image and metadata systems and prepares validated EPG data for external communication and press usage. The role ensures that programme, image, and metadata information is brought together reliably and made available through automated, traceable, and scalable workflows. Implement validation, aggregation, transformation, and export logic for EPG-related data across planning, image, and metadata sources. Ensure that data quality, completeness, consistency, and publication readiness are checked before information is passed on to communication and press channels. Work closely with product, editorial, communication, press, planning, metadata, and engineering stakeholders to understand existing workflows, reduce manual work, clarify system responsibilities, and support the transition towards an automated publishing process. • Design and implement the Auto Publisher as a maintainable backend service using Kotlin, Java, Kafka, and hexagonal architecture. • Build robust domain logic to combine planning, image, and metadata information and prepare validated EPG data for communication and press-facing channels. Implement integrations with upstream planning systems, image and metadata systems, and downstream publication interfaces, ensuring resilient communication, clear ownership of data flows & robust error handling, and maintainable interfaces for future extensions.) • Use MongoDB and PostgreSQL appropriately for persistence, processing state, validation results, auditability, and operational transparency. • Replace manual publishing steps with automated validation and publishing workflows that support a clear separation of responsibilities between upstream editorial/business decisions and downstream technical publication. • The Auto Publisher should enable business and editorial decisions to be made in the upstream systems, so that downstream publishing can run with minimal manual intervention. • Ensure quality through clean code, testable architecture, meaningful validation rules, transparent error handling, and close collaboration with product, editorial, communication, press, planning, metadata, and engineering stakeholders.Job Description
What you’ll bring: Backend engineering, system integration, and data-driven platforms, with strong expertise in backend services, event-driven architectures, EPG data processing, validation frameworks, clean architecture, and domain modelling. Proficient in Kotlin, Java, Kafka, Hexagonal Architecture, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, API integration, data validation, persistence modelling, and automated processing workflows.
Responsibilities:
Writing and maintaining efficient code for software components, adhering to best practices in development
Supporting the design and development of new software applications aligned with business objectives
Implementing testing frameworks for software validation, including unit and integration tests, to ensure quality
Documenting the software development process, including design and deployment procedures, to facilitate knowledge sharing
Analyzing software integration needs and planning system architecture to meet technical specifications
Reviewing current practices and technical literature to inform project solutions and applying engineering methodologies
Working with Quality Assurance to ensure applications meet technical requirements and fit specifications
Troubleshooting software issues, providing resolutions to enhance application performance and user satisfaction
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
